| A World Class City Indianapolis, Indiana Indianapolis, the state capital of Indiana, is located in the heart of the nation. 70% of the country’s population lives within 700 miles of Indianapolis and more interstates cross through Indianapolis than another American city. It has experienced handsome economic growth in recent decades, a reflection of an entrepreneurial attitude that permeates local and state government. In 2004, KPMG ranked Indianapolis No. 5 among the Least Expensive Large US Cities for Doing Business and “Site Selection” magazine named Indiana Number One in competitiveness for business investment. Central Indiana has become particularly adept at recruiting and nurturing companies in the life sciences industry. Young life science companies have been able to leverage off the recourses available at Purdue and Indiana Universities and capitalize on the close proximity to large companies like Eli Lilly, Guidant Corporation, Anthem and Roche Diagnostics. In addition to hosting the annual Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400, Indianapolis is the home of the 2007 World Champion NFL Colts and the NBA Pacers. In 2003, the city was ranked the “Number One Pro Sports City in North America” by ESPN Magazine and is a host city for the NFL Super Bowl. Indianapolis has earned the reputation for being the country’s amateur sports capital. Its state of the art venues have allowed the city to host numerous national and world championships, including the Pan Am Games, the NCAA men’s and women’s Division I Basketball Final Fours, the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships and many Olympic qualifying events.
